“Our foreman made us feel like safety meant more than hardhats and steel-toed boots.”

I think that as more women work in trades, the stereotype about construction workers who catcall is becoming less common. But when I first started out, it happened a lot. Some places tolerated it more than others. One day, our foreman made it clear that behaviour was not ok and threatened to remove anyone from the job site for doing it. I had huge trust in him after that. He made us feel like safety meant more than hardhats and steel-toed boots.
